Celebrations as same-sex marriage and marijuana are legalized in Washington.

Gay couple. They look good together though |
Besides
approving same-sex marriage, Washington voters last
month also passed ballot measure I-502, legalizing possession of up to an ounce
of marijuana for those 21 and older. And even though smoking marijuana in
public is still illegal under the new rules, and all marijuana smoking and
possession remains illegal under federal law, the city’s police department has
been told to stand down for now.
That's some good stuff |
The police department’s Web site attempts to clarify the new law: “Does this mean you should flagrantly roll up a mega-spliff and light up in the middle of the street? No. If you’re smoking pot in public, officers will be giving helpful reminders to folks about the rules and regulations under I-502 (like not smoking pot in public).”
Needless to say, the line at the marriage license bureau at one point snaked out of the building and into the street. Local marijuana dispensaries have been swarmed with calls and there are concerns that persons who require prescription marijuana would not have access to their medication due to the explosion of demand.
