PASSION WEEK...ROAD TO THE CROSS!

Hello all, I just read up on some...erm...theology, history of the church and a bit of Catholicism, you get my drift. Anyway, I thought I should share with you. I have distilled the plethora of info to make it as interesting as possible. If you want the scholarly writings and text, you'll have to visit the Holy See (that's the Vatican Library) in Vatican city for that (another little info I picked up, hehehe).

Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday and Thursday of Mysteries) is the Christian feast, or holy day, falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Maundy and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the Canonical gospels. It is the fifth day of Holy Week, and is preceded by Holy Wednesday and followed by Good Friday.

On Thursday of Holy Week four events are commemorated: the washing of the disciples' feet, the institution of the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper, the agony in the garden of Gethsemane, and the betrayal of Christ by Judas.

I will never look at the day before Good Friday as just another Thursday again. Hope you've learnt a few things as I have. May the promise of Easter fill your hearts with peace and joy.
