ANOTHER AMERICAN CONTRACTS EBOLA

A doctor working for the missionary group SIM has contracted the Ebola virus while working in a hospital in Liberia.

The doctor was treating pregnant women at the maternity ward of ELWA hospital in Monrovia, Liberia. It is unclear how he contracted the virus as he was not treating patients in the hospital's Ebola isolation facility.
"My heart was deeply saddened, but my faith was not shaken, when I learned another of our missionary doctors contracted Ebola," SIM president Bruce Johnson said in a statement.

SIM is the same missionary group that Nancy Writebol had been working for when she contracted Ebola in July. Writebol and fellow American Ebola survivor Dr. Kent Brantly, who worked for the aid group Samaritan's Purse, were evacuated from Liberia to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta for treatment and declared virus-free. Writebol was discharged on August 19 and Brantly went home two days later.

There are fears that this incident could discourage other charity groups that provide non-ebola support from coming to these countries. Any further reduction of medical support would be disastrous.

ABANDONED CARS IN QATAR

In recent years, Qatar has been hit hard by a growing trend of abandoned vehicles littering city streets. From your average clunker to ultra-rare Jaguar XJ220s (above), residents of the tiny nation -about half the size of Kaduna - have bore witness to the rapid growth of renounced autos.

According a newspaper in Qatar, The Peninsula, there are a few reasons behind the phenomenon. Many residents attribute the trend to the country’s steady population increase, while others chalk it up to owners facing huge traffic violations, a default on their credit payments, or fees attributed with proper disposal of used cars.

So far, the government has removed more than 10,000 vehicles from the city of Al Khor in northern Qatar, with more than 12,000 vehicles hauled away nationwide.

Perhaps this could give some young entrepreneur an "Aha Moment".

BLACK TEENAGER SHOT DEAD BY POLICE

The occurrence of shootings in the US is quite a familiar sight in most cities. However when the shooter is the police, people who have sworn "to serve and protect", it takes a different twist.

About a week ago, in Ferguson Missouri USA, a young black teenager Micheal Brown was shot and killed by a police officer Darren Wilson. Cases of young black teenagers killed have been getting a lot of media attention, a case of note was the shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. in Florida.

Was Micheal Brown a "gentle giant," a cigar thief, or a gang member?
The black teenager had no adult criminal record, according to the St. Louis County prosecutor. Family and friends described "Big Mike" as not "the type to fight" and "funny, silly, he would make you laugh." "He was never a person who liked confrontation," said Markese Mull, who described himself as a close friend. "His smile was going to make you smile."
But the portrait of Michael Brown emerging now contradicts some of those earlier portrayals of him as a "gentle giant."
According to a Ferguson police report released Friday, Mike Brown was the chief suspect in a robbery that occurred about 10 minutes before he was fatally shot. The report says Brown was seen by witnesses and on video tape, carrying a box of cigars from a nearby liquor store.
Photos from the video footage released by police show a large man dressed in a T-shirt and red St. Louis Cardinals cap, the same clothing Mike Brown was wearing when he was killed, shoving the liquor store clerk.
While the police report doesn't identify the store, media reports say it is Ferguson Market and Liquor. The store is now closed and on Friday evening hundreds of people had gathered at the location. The police report says that the robbery occurred Saturday Aug. 9 between 11:52 and 11:54 a.m.
The report says Brown was accompanied by Dorian Johnson, the same individual later identified as being with Brown when they were stopped at 12:01 p.m. for "jaywalking" by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. Moments later, Brown was shot by Wilson.
There is no police video footage of the fatal encounter between Brown and Wilson, the police officer. Unlike many police departments,  neither Ferguson police cars or officers are equipped with video cameras. The department reportedly received a federal grant recently to equip some patrol cars with cameras, but that hasn't occurred yet.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson said Friday that Officer Wilson had no knowledge that Brown was a suspect in the robbery at the time he encountered Brown.

Based on this evaluation and in combination with the recent correspondence between the parties, we regret to inform that adidas has decided not to extend its partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation as per the end of the Agreement (i.e 31 December 2014)." TONY PULIS LEAVES CRYSTAL PALACE

Tony Pulis
Tony Pulis quits Premier League side Crystal Palace ahead of opening match with Arsenal FC. He left by mutual consent less than 48 hours before the new English Premier League season kicks off. Pulis who won the Premier League's manager of the year award last season, had been frustrated by the failure to sign a number of transfer targets.

Tension between Pulis and chairman Steve Parish came to a tipping point. Pulis wanted to assume greater control of the football matters, especially transfers, after missing out on a number of key targets. He and Parish also disagreed about the vision for the club.

As a result of Pulis' exit, assistant manager Keith Millen will be at the helm in the game against Arsenal on Saturday, former Manchester United manager David Moyes, and former Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay are on a list of potential replacements.

Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger said: "He has done a remarkable job last season, made a miracle. I was at a managers meeting on Monday, he was there and nothing indicated he wouldn't be here tomorrow."

NIGERIA SUSPENDS GAMBIA AIRLINES

Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus and with increasing cases of infection, Nigeria has suspended the Gambian national airline from flying into the country. It was reported that the measures put in place by the Gambian airline to contain the virus were "unsatisfactory".

"NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority) has reviewed the measures put in place by your airline as contained in your letter of 30th July, 2014 and have found these measures unsatisfactory," NCAA said in a letter to Gambia Bird Airlines. "Consequently, your flights into Nigeria have been temporarily suspended with immediate effect until such a time that you are able to put in place acceptable and satisfactory measures," the letter stated.

NCAA is the government agency that serves as a watchdog for all airlines operating in the country.

The Gambian national carrier flies to Lagos twice weekly. It also flies to other African countries in the region including Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Senegal.

NCAA said that part of its efforts to curb the spread of the virus was to direct all airlines operating into Nigeria from Guinea, Freetown and Monrovia "to put in place adequate measures to ensure that passengers with this disease are not boarded and brought into the country...such measures may include suspension of flights into these countries."

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has declared a national emergency over the deadly Ebola virus.

SAM SMITH COVERS WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN

I knew he could sing but damn! Sam Smith killed it. For your listening pleasure...

PLEASE READ...ALERT: EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE (EVD)

The purpose of this alert is to notify travelers of the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria and to inform them of measures they can take to minimize their risks of contracting the disease.

What is the current situation?

According to the World Health Organization, as of August 1, 2014, 4 suspected cases, including 1 death, of Ebola have been reported in Lagos, Nigeria. CDC recommends that travelers to Nigeria protect themselves by avoiding contact with the blood and body fluids of people who are ill with Ebola.
The cases of Ebola in Nigeria are related to an ongoing Ebola outbreak that has been occurring in West Africa since May 2014. This outbreak affects GuineaLiberia, and Sierra Leone and is the largest outbreak of Ebola in history. At least three Americans have been infected; two are health care workers in an Ebola clinic. For more information about the ongoing outbreak in West Africa, visit Outbreak of Ebola in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone on the CDC Ebola website.

What is Ebola?

Ebola virus disease (also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever) is a rare and deadly disease. The disease is native to several African countries and is caused by infection with one of the ebolaviruses (Ebola, Sudan, Bundibugyo, or Taï Forest virus). It is spread by direct contact with a sick person’s blood or body fluids. It is also spread by contact with contaminated objects or infected animals.
Symptoms include fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, sore throat, and weakness, followed by diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Skin rash, red eyes, and internal and external bleeding may be seen in some patients.

Who is at risk?

Travelers could be infected if they come into contact with blood or body fluids from someone who is sick or has died from Ebola, sick wildlife, or meat from an infected animal. Health care providers caring for Ebola patients and family and friends in close contact with an ill person are at highest risk because they may come into contact with blood or body fluids.

What can travelers do to prevent Ebola?

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for Ebola, and many people who get the disease die. Therefore, it is important to take steps to prevent Ebola.
If you are traveling to Nigeria, please make sure to do the following:
  • Practice careful hygiene. Avoid contact with blood and body fluids.
  • Do not handle items that may have come in contact with an infected person’s blood or body fluids.
  • Avoid funeral or burial rituals that require handling the body of someone who has died from Ebola.
  • Avoid contact with animals or with raw meat.
  • Avoid hospitals where Ebola patients are being treated. The US Embassy or consulate is often able to provide advice on facilities that are suitable for your needs. The US Embassy in Abuja can be reached at +(234) 9-461-4000. The US Consulate in Lagos can be reached at +(234) 1-460-3400.
  • Seek medical care immediately if you develop fever, headache, achiness, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, rash, or red eyes.
    • Limit your contact with other people when you travel to the doctor. Do not travel anywhere else.
  • Pay attention to your health after you return.
  • Monitor your health for 21 days if you were in an area with an Ebola outbreak, especially if you were in contact with blood or body fluids, items that have come in contact with blood or body fluids, animals or raw meat, or hospitals where Ebola patients are being treated.
  • Seek medical care immediately if you develop fever, headache, achiness, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, rash, or red eyes.
    • Tell the doctor about your recent travel and your symptoms before you go to the office or emergency room. Advance notice will help the doctor care for you and protect other people who may be in the office.

Special Recommendation for Health Care Workers

Health care workers who may be exposed to people with the disease should follow these steps:
  • Wear protective clothing, including masks, gloves, gowns, and eye protection.
  • Practice proper infection control and sterilization measures. For more information, see “Infection Control for Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers in the African Health Care Setting.”
  • Isolate Ebola patients from unprotected people.
  • Avoid direct contact with the bodies of people who have died from Ebola.
  • Notify health officials if you have been exposed to someone with Ebola.

LIL WAYNE HAS HIV?

Did multi-award winning YMCMB rapper Lil Wayne test positive to HIV-AIDS?

There have been several reports especially on social media that the US rapper allegedly contracted the AIDS virus and is in the hospital for treatment. A source close to the rapper was quoted as saying:

“That little gremlin nigga is sick, but it’s not HIV or AIDS! That photo of Wayne at the hospital is when he had the seizures. The story is totally bogus.”

Remember a few years ago, there were also claims that he was HIV-positive? Well it seems this is just another farce.
